There are holidays that give you a break from life.
And then there are places that somehow change the pace of your life altogether.
For me, Vanuatu was one of those places.

THE STORY BEHIND EXHALE

I didn’t go to Vanuatu looking for a place to run a retreat.

I went with a friend to celebrate her 50th lap around the sun.

Life had felt very full. I was busy, stretched, constantly thinking about the next thing that needed to be done. I arrived feeling a little frayed around the edges — restless, scratchy and craving some space from the noise of everyday life.

And then I landed in Vanuatu.

Almost immediately, something shifted.

The noise disappeared. The to-do list, the constant messages and the mental clutter all faded into the background

What stayed with me the most was the warmth of the local people.  They had this beautiful sense of ‘island time’ — no stress, no fussing, no urgency. When they spoke to you, they were really with you. Everything felt calm present and unhurried – and being around that energy made me slow down too.

I took one enormous breath out.

And exhale.

There it was – space, a clearer mind.

At that moment I knew, I wanted to create a retreat here, for other people to experience this feeling.

WHAT IS EXHALE?

Exhale isn’t about filling every hour of your day.

It isn’t a bootcamp, a detox or a health retreat where you move from one scheduled activity to the next from sunrise until bedtime.

It is deliberately spacious.

There will be beautiful shared experiences, but there will be long stretches of time where there is nowhere you need to be.

Read a book by the pool.

Swim.

Kayak.

Nap.

Journal.

Have a long conversation.

Sit quietly and gaze at the water.

Or do absolutely nothing

Every morning begins with an optional 30-minute guided breathing activation and journalling session, giving you a little time to check in with yourself before the day begins.

From there, we'll move between food, culture, creativity, nature and wellness — always leaving room to breathe.

No payment is taken online — we’ll confirm availability personally.

FOOD IS AT THE HEART OF IT

If you have travelled with Wholesome Bellies before, you know that food is always be a big part of the experience.

Throughout Exhale, we’ll share beautiful chef-prepared meals using fresh local produce and ingredients.

Meals at Havannah will be centred around nourishing, homemade plant-based meals, from breakfasts to lunches, snacks and dinners.

We’ll also get out into Vanuatu to discover where food comes from and meet some of the people behind it.

We’ll explore markets, regenerative food projects, coffee, cacao, chocolate, kava and local distilling.

And one afternoon, we’ll head into the garden with Mama Flo, harvest ingredients together and learn how to prepare traditional Vanuatu dishes using fresh coconut milk and local produce.

Wholesome Bellies will always be plant-rich at heart.

You don’t need to be vegan to come along. Where it suits the culture and experience, local dairy or fish may also be available for those who choose it.

There is no judgement around anyone’s plate.

Just curiosity, beautiful food and plenty of time around the table.

Your Time at Exhale - Havannah Boat House

Explore your six days, one day at a time. Choose a day to begin.

Saturday 24th July

Arrive & Exhale

Arrive in Vanuatu and take our private transfer to Havannah.  There is nothing you need to do when you arrive other than settle in.

Unpack. Explore. Have a swim. Find your favourite spot by the water.

And exhale.

In the evening, we’ll come together for a traditional Chief’s Welkam to Country, cloth presentation and kava ceremony, followed by welcome drinks, beach canapés and a very special Mama Flo-led dinner.

Our first evening is simply about arriving — in Vanuatu and within ourselves.

Sunday 25th July

Slow Living

We begin the morning with our 30-minute breathing activation and journaling session, followed by a gentle private group yoga practice.

Then breakfast. And after that?

Very little.

Sunday is intentionally slow. Swim, read, kayak, journal, nap or spend hours by the pool if that’s exactly what you need.

We’ll enjoy lunch together before another free afternoon.

Later in the day, we’ll come together for a beautiful sound-healing experience, followed by dinner and a quiet evening at Havannah.

Monday 26th July

Pele Island

After our morning breathing and journaling practice and breakfast, we’ll leave Havannah for a full-day Pele Island experience.

This is our day to be completely surrounded by Vanuatu’s natural beauty.

Clear water.  Island beaches.  Swimming.  Exploring. Snorkeling.

And a fresh vegan island lunch.

We’ll return to the Havannah with plenty of time to rest before another stunning dinner by Mama Flo.

Tuesday 27th July

Create, Cook and Connect

Our morning begins slowly with breathing, journaling and breakfast.

Then we’ll get our hands into some clay for a private pottery-making experience at Havannah by local artists.  This is about doing something with your hands, slowing your mind and enjoying the process of creating.

After lunch, the afternoon is yours.

Later in the afternoon, we’ll head into the garden together for our Garden Harvest and Cooking Experience with Mama Flo.  We’ll harvest ingredients and learn to prepare traditional dishes such as Lap Lap, using local produce.

Then we’ll sit down together and enjoy another shared meal.

Wednesday 28th July

The Collective Food Tour

Our final full day takes us beyond Havannah to explore the food, people and flavours of Efate.

After our morning breathing and journaling session and breakfast, we’ll head out on our Vanuatu Collective Food Tour.

The day may take us through experiences including:

  • Tanna Coffee
  • Freshwater Market with ingredient discovery
  • CTIV chocolate
  • 83 Islands Distillery
  • A final drink and bite by the water

This isn’t simply a food tour.  It’s an opportunity to meet people, hear stories and understand a little more about the island through what it grows, makes and eats.

We’ll return to Havannah for our final evening together.

Day 6

Thursday 29th July

One Last Exhale

There is no rushing on our final morning.

We’ll begin with our last breathing and journaling session together, followed by breakfast.

There is time for one more swim.  One more coffee by the water.  One more chapter of your book.

And a little time to notice how different you feel compared with the person who arrived five nights earlier.

We’ll leave Havannah late morning for our airport transfer and the journey home.

Hopefully carrying a little more space with us.
